About Me

Mark Cook is an avian ecologist who has studied bird behavior and ecology for almost 20 years. For the past 10 years his work has focused on understanding and restoring breeding populations of birds in the Everglades, primarily wading birds (herons, egrets, storks and ibises),  but he also dabbles a little in ducks and secretive marsh birds such as rails and bitterns. Prior to that he focused on why birds behave in the way they do, especially their breeding behavior. This involved species as diverse as neotropical songbirds in the rainforests of Puerto Rico, and guillemots and puffins on remote islands off Scotland.
